SAMIA

From the race on the way to school to the Olympic Games in Beijing: Samia's big dream is running. In her home country Somalia, however, women are not allowed to participate in sports. The risk for getting caught is high. The film is based on the true story of the Somali athlete Samia Yusuf Omar, who faces all resistance and dangers to her dream.

Following the screening, we will shed light on the inequalities between the global South and the Global North in an exciting round of talks together with experts from science and practice. We are discussing what factors lead people to the serious decision of leaving their home countries and expose themselves to the dangers of fleeing. And last but not least, what effects all this has on human health.
