PLASTIC PEOPLE
Join us for our online panel online on Public Health Nutrition on Tuesday, November 26, 2026, at 7 PM (CET) via Zoom, as part of our festival program. Participation is free of charge; the registration link will be available here shortly.
As a companion to the discussion, we are making the documentary Plastic People available to stream in advance.
Science journalist Ziya Tong makes a disturbing discovery: almost all plastic ever produced eventually breaks down into microplastics – microscopic particles that are now found everywhere: in the air, water and soil – and in our bodies. Together with director Ben Addelman, Tong embarks on a personal investigation, having her home, food and even her own body tested for traces of plastic. The results are alarming and raise urgent questions: How dangerous are microplastics really to our health? And what can be done about them?
Together with international experts, we will explore these questions in our online discussion:
Sascha Gabizon, Executive Director of WECF International (Women Engage for a Common Future) and guest lecturer in the Global Health programme at LMU Munich
Dr. med. Tobias Kiss, specialist in paediatrics and adolescent medicine, curator of the Planetary Health special exhibition, research associate at the Deutsches Museum / Munich Science Communication Lab and member of the Global Environmental Health and Climate Change Working Group at the Institute and Outpatient Clinic for Occupational, Social and Environmental Medicine at LMU Munich
Joshua Linn, Founder and Managing Director, The Ocean Package
Dr. Sarah Schönbauer, Postdoctoral Researcher at the Chair of Sociology of Science, Technical University of Munich (Department of Science, Technology and Society)
Annika Neff (moderator), Chair of Public Health and Health Services Research, Institute for Medical Information Processing, Biometry and Epidemiology (IBE)
